Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Hands-on Education from Railroad Employers (HERE) is dedicated to educating new audiences about the railroad industry. This nonprofit excels in its mission-driven approach and community outreach; however, it faces challenges in establishing a cohesive communication strategy that resonates with its target audiences. Currently, HERE lacks a structured method to track outreach efforts, leading to inconsistent messaging and missed opportunities for engagement.
Project Synopsis: Activities/Actions Required
  1. Students will engage in a series of activities to achieve project objectives.
  2. Initial activities will include conducting a comprehensive analysis of HERE's current communication materials, outreach strategies, and target audiences. Editing and otherwise making suggestions for improvements will also be requested.
  3. Students will gather qualitative and quantitative data through surveys, interviews, and focus groups to identify gaps and opportunities in messaging.
  4. Following the analysis, students will develop a strategic communication plan that aligns with HERE's mission, emphasizing clarity and consistency.
Project Synopsis: Expected Results
  • The expected outcomes of this project include the development of a strategic communication plan that enhances HERE's messaging for outreach and marketing, as well as the creation of a functional outreach tracking system.
  • Students will learn valuable skills in project management, data analysis, and communication strategy.
  • SMART goals for the project include: (1) Completing a comprehensive communication assessment within four weeks, (2) Delivering a draft communication strategy in six weeks, (3) Developing a easy to use (multiple user capability) prototype tracking system by week eight, and (4) Presenting final deliverables to HERE by the end of the semester.
  • The business value generated will include improved messaging consistency, enhanced accountability in outreach efforts, and a systematic approach to engagement tracking.
