The Industry Capstone Program (ICP) at the Stevens School of Business is a great opportunity for corporations and talented graduate students to work together on a semester-long project. Students work as a team, with faculty support, on real-world business problems and provide appropriate assistance and recommendations to our corporate partners. The collaboration provides business graduate students with industry experience critical to their career success, while corporations gain fresh perspectives on their business challenges and the chance to mentor budding professionals.

Program Goals
The Stevens Industry Capstone Program is designed to deliver both strategic impact for partner organizations and transformational learning for graduate students. Through this experiential consulting engagement, students will: 
 
  • Apply Classroom Knowledge to Real-World Challenges: Leverage coursework in strategy, data analytics, marketing, and innovation to address live business issues.
  • Strengthen Business Problem-Solving Abilities: Break down complex organizational problems, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend actionable strategies.
  • Sharpen Communication & Consulting Skills: Hone client-facing skills including stakeholder interviews, presentations, reporting, and storytelling with data.
  • Practice Team-Based Consulting Methodology: Collaborate in interdisciplinary teams to simulate a real-world consulting environment with deadlines, accountability, and peer feedback.
  • Integrate Analytical & Strategic Thinking: Utilize financial modeling, market research, and data visualization tools to inform evidence-based recommendations.
  • Build Client Management Confidence: Engage regularly with professionals from the host company, conduct check-ins, and iterate based on real feedback.
  • Experience the Full Project Lifecycle: From project scoping and research to ideation, testing, and final presentations—students will take full ownership of the consulting journey.
  • Reflect on Professional Growth: Use faculty and peer feedback to evaluate individual contributions, team effectiveness, and areas for improvement.

Other Requirements
  • Availability for Weekly Check-Ins
    Industry partners must designate at least one team member to meet with student teams weekly (30–60 minutes) and provide timely feedback throughout the project duration.
  • Project Scope Definition & Alignment
    Partners are expected to collaborate with faculty and CapSource to define a clear, achievable scope before the program launch, ensuring alignment with academic goals.
  • Kickoff & Final Presentation Participation
    Participation in the formal kickoff meeting and final presentation session is expected to provide guidance and recognize student contributions.
  • Ongoing Communication & Responsiveness
    Partners should be available to respond to student inquiries and review deliverables asynchronously throughout the term.
  • Access to Data/Systems (If Applicable)
    If the project requires access to proprietary data, platforms, or internal stakeholders, industry partners must coordinate appropriate access protocols early in the program.
  • Feedback & Evaluation
    Provide constructive feedback during milestone check-ins and complete a brief program-end evaluation to help refine the experience for future cohorts.
  • Non-Disclosure Agreement (Optional)
    If necessary, NDAs can be signed between students and the partner organization to safeguard confidential information.
